Record high rainfall caused this Murphysboro, Illinois basement to flood. After tearing out all the wet, moldy drywall, the owners dreaded ever using drywall again. First, Woods Basement Systems installed WaterGuard and the TripleSafe sump pump system with battery backup to ensure this basement stays dry all the time. The final step was finishing the basement with the beautiful, waterproof ZenWall system with metal framing and fresh, inorganic ceiling tiles.

There are a few things we have planned for the basement area. First and foremost is a bedroom/bathroom combination. This is initially designed for Abby (soon to be twelve) to have a larger space than her currently fairly small bedroom. But it will also be designed for the possibility of one or more of our aging parents to move in with us. Consequently it will need to be designed in an accessible manner, including wider doors and a walk-in shower (no tub). We’d also like it to have a walk-in closet for Abby and/or the parents. It should be large enough to fit a queen bed, a desk, and probably a couple of dressers.

Most of my experience has been in new construction but I’ve also done a fair amount of replacement projects. Each job is usually a bit different and rewarding. Even so, the industry can also be dangerous; (in the sense that the less you know, the more apt you’ll pay more than you should). – The following is a general breakdown on what you should know before allowing anyone to sell you replacement windows. My intent is to keep you out of the dark.

Here are pictures of both of these little cabinets above our counters in our kitchen. My husband put shelves up all around the kitchen. I have a large collection of kitchen items and I’m not ready to get rid of them. So this is how we display them. This kind of shelving is very popular in country decorating. It works well for a small house. It also looks open and makes the kitchen look larger. I keep curtains off the windows to help with that open look.
